Ubuntu 5
Summerland Community Arts Council . | 19 October, 2019
Thursday, October 3 the latest show at the Summerland Community Arts Centre opened in the Gallery.
Called "Ubuntu 5", the show features artists Bonnie Jackson from Salmon Arm and Lois Campbell, Sandi Sasges, Holly Smith, and Mary Stebbins from Vernon.
Ubuntu is an ancient African term that describes our relationships with others and how those relationships shape who we are. It literally translates as “I am because we are.” This is the theme of Ubuntu 5. It is about community, our interdependence, our diversity. In the words of Desmond Tutu, “We belong in a bundle of life.” We are a group of 5 women artists coming together to create an exhibition celebrating humanity. The variety of styles and media reflects our person views of what it is to be human.
Lois Campbell says, "because we’ve found connection and community through our art, we call ourselves Ubuntu 5."
Ubuntu 5 runs from October 3 to November 14.
