Galia Kwetny Artist Biography

Galia Kwetny, a Canadian-Israeli, was born in the former Soviet Union in 1964. After graduating from the Moscow Linguistic University in 1990, she left for Israel with her family in 1991.

Galia Kwetny lived in Haifa and worked as an EFL teacher at the city high schools and a mentor for the Department of Education at Haifa University for 10 years.

After a year of intifada in Israel, Galia Kwetny moved to Canada in 2002 for the time of her Sabbatical Year. Upon completion of her Sabbatical program at the University of Alberta and being certified as an ESL teacher in Alberta, she decided to embark on a new career and enrolled in the BFA program at U of A. Galia completed the Bachelor of Fine Arts with Distinction in 2009. The next step was finding a Master thesis coordinator, and that was Landon McKenzie at the Emily Carr University of  Art + Design.

Galia graduated from the master's program at Emily Carr University in 2013. In Alberta, Galia opened Artribute Art School. In 2017, Galia was offered a position at Burman University in Lacomb, Alberta. She taught there until 2023, when she moved to Penticton.
