Diane Walters, is a lifelong potter (42 years throwing experience) and the owner of eARTh Studio, in Nelson, BC. She has extensive experience working with low, medium and high fire clays and glazes, handbuilding, sculpture and wheel techniques. Diane regularly participates in workshops for advanced potters, and attends the NCECA National Council of Ceramic Educators conference, annually. Her work is in galleries in Alberta and BC. She is a member of the BC Potters Guild. Her fascination with the earth’s sedimentary layers and mountainous landscapes led her to explore this theme in her womanscape basins and tectonic platters. These works depict geological form and movement using natural oxides and sculptural formations which call out the message that the earth is alive and she is holding us at the table. Her pottery line is often undergoing its own metamorphosis and is currently exploring liminal spaces, capturing the line between emptiness and emergence in form and colour.

As a lifelong potter and the owner of eARTh Studio (Nelson, BC) I have extensive experience working with low, medium and high fire clays and glazes, handbuilding, sculpture and wheel techniques. I am always experimenting with form and process and colour in the ceramic medium. I regularly participate in workshops for advanced potters, and attend the NCECA National Council of Ceramic Educators conference, annually. My work is in galleries in Alberta and BC. I am also a member of the BC Potters Guild.

My most recent project, my current production line “Emergence ”, showcases how ceramics capture light and warmth with an interplay of light and colour. Born out of global isolation and social distancing, these pieces represent art as a life-line during challenging times. The interior glaze is reminiscent of candlelight meant to symbolize the warmth and comfort of connection (to others, to ourselves, and to the Earth) while the white gloss exterior catches light of mind and life!
