Janet Peake

Janet Peake brings seven years of experience on the board of the arts council and many years of community service to her position as president. “I was the District of Summerland Council liaison to the arts board for four years,” Janet said. Serving as municipal councillor from 2014 to 2018, she was then elected to the arts board holding the position of vice president.

Looking to the near future when renovations of the building are completed, Janet said she is eager to see the resumption of existing programs and to explore the possibility of new ones. An enthusiastic fan of the Friday Night Live performances, she is particularly keen for them to start again. During her term as president, she would like the arts council to develop a public art policy. Currently Janet is president of the Summerland Food Bank and Resource Centre and on the board of the Summerland Museum. Previously, she was a board member of Kettle Valley Railway.

Janet brings an important in-depth understanding of local government organization and operation to the arts board. Before moving to Summerland in 2010, she operated a plant and garden business in Ontario. She was also on the town council of Lake of Bays in the Muskoka region of Ontario for 19 years and served as mayor for seven.
