If you are an aspiring or working actor, director or playwright who would like to learn techniques for analyzing your scripts, join us at the Summerland Arts & Cultural Centre on November 9th. Sponsored by the Summerland Singers and Players, this 3-hour workshop will be led by veteran theatre and film actor Peg Barcelo and is designed to help participants analyze emotional intent in a script in order to provide greater insight into a character’s needs and what they are really talking about. An RSVP to would be helpful but you can also show up the day of. Seats will be first come, first serve. Please bring a notebook, a pencil and script you want to analyze.
About Peg Barcelo:
A veteran of film and theatre, Peg Barcelo has spent much of her career either performing in various bands, as an improv actor or stand up comic at clubs or corporate events in Alberta. Peg is thrilled to come back to community theatre in May of 2019 after a 19 year hiatus and would like to share her knowledge to make theatre in the valley second to none.

The Summerland Singers and Players is proud to sponsor a new season of our Play Writing Group. The purpose of the group is to provide a supportive environment for aspiring playwrights. The goal of the group is to help support participants to complete a play of some sort. These can be as short or as long as you wish. The smaller ten-minute pieces can be submitted to the Ryga Festival for the Theatre Trail in the spring if the playwright wishes to do so. Participants will be asked to work through some practical writing exercises and will have the opportunity to hear their plays read by other group members if they are comfortable. You may attend when you like – it’s not necessary to come to every meeting. The next meeting is Monday, November 4th and future meetings will be held on the first Monday of every month until May 2020. The cost is by donation.
