My name is Maureen King, nee Fitzpatrick. I was born in Summerland and have lived most of my life in our lovely little town. There's so much to appreciate in the natural surroundings as well as the amenities of small town life. My husband and I enjoy exploring on foot with our dog, Ivy, or on our bikes the many treasures the Okanagan Valley has to offer.
My paintings are usually in acrylic and reflect places in BC or wherever we've travelled or my subject may be one of our family pets or the wildlife in the Okanagan. A summer treat for me is to grab my summer read and head to the beach for some quiet 'me time' as you can see in my painting "Life on the Beach."
What's it all about?
It's all about the light, not the thing,
It's about the tone, not the ring,
the size, the weight or the bling,
It's all about the light.
It's all about the beauty, not the boast
It's about the soul, not the most
The gift, the drink, or the toast.
It's all about the beauty.
I was born in Vancouver. My husband and I retired to Summerland in 2007. I have studied under various artists. I work in acrylic, watercolour and graphite. I'm a member of the Summerland Art Club in Summerland, BC and Mountain Shadows Artists Association in Yuma, AZ.
Lyn was born and raised and worked her entire life in Saskatchewan, moving to Summerland in 2017. Lyn is a Chartered Professional Accountant and during her career, had no time for artistic thoughts. In retirement, she took up various artistic endeavours and she eventually settled on acrylic painting as her preferred medium. Lyn belongs to the Summerland Art Club and is so looking forward to the reopening of the club workshop in the Summerland Art Centre. Lyn has converted the walkout lower level of her home to an art studio and gallery. Showings can be arranged by contacting her email, below the artist's image
Greta Loeppky has been painting for the past 10 years. Creating works of art using colour and texture to connect the viewer and the painting is her goal. She believes that "When a piece of art speaks to you, you will hear it."
Dianne works in many different media, most recently print-making with lino-cuts. She enjoys photography, book-making, chalk pastels, collage, and drawing with charcoal, graphite, and pencil. Her muses are her grandchildren and inspiration sometimes comes from her garden, and often from her fellow artists.
Growing up I had no interest in art at all. I was useless in art class in highschool but one day I decided to take an oil painting class and surprised myself with actually turning out something that looked pretty good. From there I have taught myself to use acrylic and watercolour paint.
My favourite thing now is experimenting with texture and colour.
Every time someone purchases one of my paintings I feel blessed that they want to hang it on their wall!
I am a new artist who enjoys working with a range of media. Since retiring I have tried acrylic painting, and I love it. My style is impressionistic and I have fallen in love with natural subjects such as birds and landscapes. I get most of my ideas from photography and all of my landscape paintings have been from photographs that I took myself and interpreted in paint. This process is highly satisfying to me, as is learning new techniques and styles.
I love to make my works in oil, watercolour, ink, and acrylic. I enjoy working on paper, canvas, and wood supports. My work is directed by many influences.
I’m an Aries and an Oreo (I like black and white). I’m interested in drawing, charcoal, ink and pastel. I find Summerland an ideal spot to be inspired by so many budding artists. Winter in Mexico inspired my latest paintings, including “Black is Beautiful.”.
