Following a previous term on the arts council board and serving as secretary, Elaine Watts returned in spring 2021. She chaired the Light up the Arts Christmas sale, formerly known as Season’s Sparkles, for five years and is once again a member of the art gallery committee.
“I bring a voice representing and supporting artists to the arts council as well as general management, financial and volunteer skills,” Elaine said. After a career in retail management, Elaine took up watercolour and started another life as an artist, eventually moving from Vancouver to Summerland in 2012, and developing a studio in Trout Creek. Her work has evolved into printmaking as well as watercolour and ink, doing figures, landscapes, and more impressionistic pieces.
A dual citizen of Australia and Canada, Elaine spends the summer in both countries and is never far from the beauty of nature which she captures in watercolours. Locally she exhibits with Summerland’s DeVine Art Group and paints with the South Okanagan Plein Air Group and the life drawers of Penticton. Elaine has exhibited her work in Melbourne and Sydney and exhibits regularly in Canada. Her paintings hang in private collections in Canada, Australia, the U.S., and Europe.
“Through my work I intend to inspire fun and magic for creative beings of every size and shape,” Elaine said.
