New this year, Sailing and Art!

July 4-8: Art Around The Water (Ages 6-10) “Where Science and Art Meet”
This full day program is for new and younger sailors with half a day of sailing and half a day of outdoor art. Come and explore the meeting place between science and art.  Each day we will explore some facet of science and then see how we can work with it to create art.  Science affects how we create art, and how we create art depends on science.  Think rocks, water, wind, sand, and more! Please bring a change of clothes, bathing suit, towel, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, life jacket, hat, water bottle.

July 4-8: Play and Puppetry (Ages 3-5)
Children will act out stories, songs, & plays, using their own hand-crafted puppets. Well-known songs, fables fairytales & nursery rhymes will guide the creations.

July 11-15: Once Upon a Craft (Ages 6-9)
We’ll use well loved stories to explore art, music, and story-telling.  Each story will inspire us to create, sing, design, and act.  Wear comfortable clothes you can create in!

July 11-15 and 18-22: So Much Drama! (Ages 10-14)
Be on Stage! Improv, writing, comedy, tragedy, directing & acting & more.

July 11-15: Cartooning (Ages 10+)
This fun course is an introduction to cartooning using classic cartooning methods.There will be an emphasis on how to build your own characters; over the course of the week, the students will create a short comic strip

July 18 – 22: Music and Movement (Ages 3-5)
Learn games and crafts related to music and movement – so important to a child’s development, by increasing self-esteem, developing gross and fine motor skills, and encouraging social and listening skills. We will use simple instruments and felt board stories to sing and move to fun songs!

July 18 – 22: Flat out Fabulous (Ages 7-9)
This class will explore different art techniques such as paper quilling, marbelling, printing painting and collage. We will experiment with and create a variety ot art mediums. the finished products will be personalized, fabulous works of art worthy of the gallery walls.

July 25 – 28 and August 3 – 5: Clay Play (Ages 7+)
Have fun getting your hands “dirty” creating with clay! In this course we will work with a variety of techniques, then kiln fire and decorate our projects. The break in between weeks allows for drying & firing.
Time:  12:30 – 2:00 ( A second class will be added at 2:30 if the first one fills)

August 8-12: Fun with a Pocket Knife (Ages 9+)
This popular whittling & carving class is sure to be fun. Participants will be introduced to the art of whittling while carving small critters, boomerangs & other objects from recycled wood.
Time: 9:00 – 11:00 am for beginners
Time: 1:00 – 3:00 pm for students who have taken the class before

August 8-12: Once Upon a Time!    (Ages 3-5)
Children will have fun making masks, sculptures, crowns, pictures and more! Themed around popular stories and nursery rhymes, this class will have children singing, painting, acting, creating and most of all having fun!

August 15-19: Messy & Marvellous  (Ages 3 – 5)
Mostly outdoor fun with exploring materials such as rubber ball, old t-shirts, paint, mud, Kool-Aid and fruit! Sing songs, act, and create art using your whole body! You will get wet and messy so water-proof sunscreen, hats & bathing suits are recommended. Wash cloths & soapy water will be provided. An additional class will be added in the afternoon if the morning class fills up.

August 15-19: From Pencil to Paint  (Ages 10+)
In this class students will be using pencils, pens, pastels, paints and collage to let their creative side show. Students will be challenged to develop their imagination, observational skills and techniques.

If you pay for your children to take music lessons, art classes, or other type of skill-building program, remember the Children’s Art Tax Credit. Similar to Children’s Fitness Tax Credit introduced in 2007, the Children’s Art Tax Credit provides a non-refundable tax credit of up to $250 (reduced for 2016 before it is discontinued in 2017) of the cost of programs that focus on fine arts, music, performing arts, outdoor wilderness training, learning a language, studying a culture, tutoring and more.
If fully utilized, it could add up to an additional $75 per child towards your bottom line.
Just remember to save your receipts for registration fees.
