The licensed Opus Bistro Café (right next to the Cannery Stage) will be open for every show with a tempting menu of dinner options.

The Next kitchen Stove Movie “My Week with Marilyn” will be shown March 8th at 4pm & 7pm

March 8 at 4 p.m. & 7 p.m.
Director: Simon Curtis Cast: Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Eddie Redmayne, Judi Dench PG – 101 min
Few celebrities have rivalled the allure and magnetism of Hollywood’s tragic and enduring icon, Marilyn Monroe. Based on Colin Clark’s memoir, this film offers a fascinating glimpse of an ambitious young man’s experience while shooting one of Monroe’s most challenging films. Clark lands a job as an assistant to famed director Lawrence Olivier and finds the British production riddled with tension as the stern, classically trained director has little patience for the star’s nervous jitters, chronic tardiness and infuriating devotion to method acting. Clark soon becomes the confident of the fragile icon and is as beguiled by the sad, insecure little girl as he is by the sensual screen goddess. Sexy, vulnerable, alluring and complex, this is a tour-de-force performance.

The next class at the Summerland Gallery is Getting the most out of your camera with Jeremy Heibert

Saturday, February 18th
10:00 am to 4:00 pm with 1 hour for lunch
Cost: $40 / Materials: Your digital camera and warm clothes for an afternoon walk
Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Bring your camera, and if you have lenses and a tripod, bring those too. The focus of this class is for each person to get the most out of their equipment in the areas that interest them. After we cover the basics of using our cameras, we will learn about solving some of the most common problems: reducing blur, dealing with low light, and focusing issues. After lunch we will take a photo-walk of at least an hour outside, focusing on the areas we’re most interested in (landscapes, portraits, abstracts, macro, etc). Then we’ll head back inside to review some photos, go over what we’ve learned, and do some basic editing, sharing and printing.
On registration please email Jeremy (jhiebert@gmail.com) to discuss what camera you use, what types of photography you enjoy, and what you are most interested in learning.

Lazar’s traditional teaching methods provide just the structure the grieving students require to bring normalcy back into their lives. As Lazar becomes accepted, his complicated history is gradually revealed to show how his personal struggles and experiences have well prepared him to guide these children to recovery. This is a complex film of tremendous maturity which interweaves themes of loss, innocence and imposture with shrewdness, tenderness and luminous warmth.

Portrait Workshop postponed

Beginner Portraiture with Dawn Marie Boucher has been postponed to February 11th.

9:00 am to 4:00 pm with 1 hour for lunch
Cost: $40 / Supplies: $10 for paper; charcoal, pencils and pastels will be available for purchase.

So you want to learn portrait drawing. You are a beginner and do not know where to start – no problem. This class covers all the important techniques to begin creating portraits unique to you. The key to your success is learning to “observe and draw what you
actually see” and letting go of learned ideas by carefully observing the interplay of form and light, shape and line that combine to create the actual appearance of human form. Step-by-step demonstrations will illustrate how to create realistic features, the use of
tone, even how to portray smooth, young skin and hair – two elements of portraiture many “newbies” find daunting and much more. You will begin learning portraiture in black and white and progress to color. Most importantly you will discover your own
personal style and the joy of capturing the “essence” of your subject.
