Drug addictions are individual, but excessive petroleum dependence has now penetrated every aspect of modern Canadian society. Our cities and our economies are hooked on oil. Psychologists say the first step in controlling an addiction is to recognize it. Author, ecologist and self-identified petroleum junkie Don Gayton will lead an interactive discussion on confronting energy consumption as an addiction—how to name it, take ownership of it, and begin to treat it.

Gayton’s writing includes award-winning books of popular non-fiction, including Man Facing West, Okanagan Odyssey, and Interwoven Wild. He is also the author of several scientific publications, and his work has appeared in Canadian Geographic. Don has previously won the Canadian Science Writers Award, and has been shortlisted twice for the BC Book Awards. He was recently the Roderick Haig-Brown Writer in Residence at the University of Victoria. Don resides in Summerland.

Stream Field Trip Gentle walk up Deep Creek near Peachland to Hardy Falls, hear how stream restoration has helped fish runs, and learn the importance of this site to the Syilx people. Search for life at the bottom of the stream and help us test our new water monitoring equipment, bought with funds from the Community Foundation!

Breakfast on the Lake Kick back and Relax, let those hiking muscles rest, while you enjoy an Okanagan Lake cruise with John Neville, naturalist, historian and
bird song expert. A perfect way to wind up another great Meadowlark Nature Festival!

Celebrating our 60th Anniversary

Sat & Sun June 2nd & 3rd from 10 am to 4 pm in the lower floor of the Summerland Library on Wharton St.

Over 20 painters will be presenting new, original works in watercolour, acrylics, oil, pastels and pencil.  Complimentary refreshments will be served.

Free admission. Meet the artists on Sunday at 3:00 pm.

Annual Planting Event
Mark your calendars Thursday, May 24th 2012

Everyone is welcome to join in our fun day planting annuals. You will be awarded for your efforts with a delicious lunch at 12pm and door prizes. Volunteers are needed!

All proceeds go directly to the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the front line organizations in Africa.

Bring your friends on May 4th to the Penticton Lakeside Resort between 6:00 and 8:30 pm.  Only $12.00
