Introduction to Wet Felting with Allison Altherr

10:00 am to 4:00 p.m., Saturday & Sunday, November 14th & 15th
Cost: $80/ Supplies: $50, Max  students:  8
After a description of fibre composition and the effect of hot water, properties of various natural fibres and their ability to felt, a brief history on felting  will also be presented. The physical process of wet felting will be explained and demonstrated then the class will  complete one or more small practice samples.

Pastel and Dry Media Weekend
10:00 am to 4:00 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, November 21st and 22nd
Cost: $80 / $20 plus Supply list
The class will include demonstrations and practice studies with pastels as well as a variety dry media for the beginner to intermediate artist. Some topics to be covered are: How to blend pastels and other dry media to create effects and colours on your drawing surface; Tools; Properties of different papers; Different pastel brands and types and their unique properties; Fixatives, overcoming problems and preserving your work; Safety

Whittle Away the Time: Three nights of Whittling & Carving
(Fun with a Pocket Knife for Adults)
6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, November 30, December 1 & 2
Cost: $100 (includes all supplies)
Join Rick Weibe and learn safe knife handling, different knife grips and strokes for controlled cutting, basics of carving a simple human face while acquiring a fascinating skill in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Using a knife and a small block of wood, you will carve a Santa ornament (about 4” tall), which would be suitable for hanging on the tree.

Call for Submission: Our Annual Christmas Card Competition

Call-for-submission-for-christmas-image-2015-1Every Year the Summerland Community Arts Council hold a competition for the annual Christmas Image.

Any member who wishes to submit a design for Christmas 2015 please do so by Friday November 20, 2015. The design can be dropped off at the art gallery, emailed or mailed.

The design, which must be original, will be judged and the selected work will become this year’s Christmas Image. The selected piece is purchased for up to $300 and will join the ever growing Christmas Image Collection.
